Progressive radio in the Houston area

As you well know the Houston area ia flooded with right wing hate radio including KTRH (Keep The Rightwingers Here) and yet the right wingers have lost seats in the County government and will probably lose more this year. You would think with radio stations flooding the area dedicated to the Republican Party that they would overwhelm their opponents.

For those of you looking for an alternative there are a few ways to access other shows across the country including satellite radio, streaming media, and podcasts. One of the good things about both of these shows below is that they do not screen callers like the wingers do. Here are my favorites:

Stephanie Miller.M-F 8-11 CST.

Streaming option: http://www.wcpt820.com/
Stephanie Miller is a hoot! Her show is  full of wit (much like this blog). If you are looking for a serious discussion about current events, you'll find it here with a large helping of laughter. It's one of the shows you do not want to listen to while drinking milk. Here is a good summary. If you have the time tune in to Stephanie Miller. She is entertaining and intelligent.

Her national radio program is bubbling in the climate of keen awareness of and the expectation of the sea change about to occur in America.
Stephanie is no stranger to political talk and current events, as her late father, William E. Miller, was Barry Goldwater’s running mate in the Republicans’ failed 1964 bid for the presidency.
Since its September 2004 debut, The Stephanie Miller Show has become one of the most important and fastest growing shows in Progressive Talk, heard across America on radio stations, on Sirius, via podcasts and free live streaming.

Ed Schultz. M-F 11-2 CST
http://www.wegoted.com
Streaming option: http://www.wcpt820.com/
Ed follows Stephanie Miller on WCPT820 but can be heard via podcast or later in the day. Ed started his show over 5 years ago. I remember his first show where he said he was going to try it out. And he has. Great middle of the road talk show host. He now has his own show on MSNBC. About Ed:
While others preen and pontificate, Ed Schultz keeps the lines wide open for his listeners-making good on his boast that The Ed Schultz Show is Where America Comes to Talk. No radio talk show is as accessible. For most talk show hosts, unscreened callers would be considered risky. And that's exactly why Ed Schultz shares the airwaves so unselfishly. Unscripted, unpredictable and unvarnished, the give and take makes for great radio. "The most important part of talking is listening," Ed says. "An open microphone is democracy in its purest form."

They don't screen callers because of their abysmal ratings - screening would take more personnel and would reduce the number of callers, making it difficult to fill the time.

When Miller was on MSNBC, she topped out at something like 150,000 viewers.

To put that in perspective, that's 1/25 as many as "Mira Quien Baila" on Univision.

As for Schultz, he has endorsed intentional electoral fraud, saying "I tell you what, if I lived in Massachusetts I'd try to vote 10 times. I don't know if they'd let me or not, but I'd try to. Yeah, that's right. I'd cheat to keep these bastards out."
