Bribing Miss Daisy

You have to wonder about some of our elected officials. Case in point: State Representative Linda Harper-Brown and her "donated" Mercedes Benz. From WFAA in Dallas:

State Rep Harper-Brown was provided a Mercedes, complete with State provided licenses plates, by a company receiving benefits from her votes in the Transportation Committee in Austin. How can anyone not think this smells to high heaven of bribery? Elected officials are required to list any possible conflicts of interest on their Financial Disclosure Forms. The Texas Ethics Commission is not kind to those who have momentary lapses of omissions.

This year Criminal Court of Appeals Judge Sharon "The Killer" Keller was fined $100,000 for not reporting over $2.8 Million in assets. Although $2.8 Million is a far cry from a Mercedes, hiding these donations is just plain stupid and can bite you in the back end come reelection time.

Two years ago Harper-Brown won her election by only 25 votes against someone who raised only $17,000 and had no campaign. This year Ms. Daisy has a well funded, well respected challenger which may drive Ms Harper-Brown out of office.

Update: "State Rep. Linda Harper-Brown said Friday that she was the "victim of misleading political attacks" in the wake of revelations that she drives a luxury car owned by a company that makes millions through state transportation contracts."

Didn't see that one coming did you?

Linda Harper-Brown calling anybody sleazy is laughable.

She had a federal tax lien for about $50,000 that vanished just a few days before she first filed for the Legislature.

She ran a slimy campaign against Rose Cannaday to first get into this office, which was full of vicious attacks, distortions, exaggerations, and outright lies.

She took $5,000 from TRMPAC and refused to return it or give an equivalent amount to charity after its executive director was indicted for laundering corporate donations into campaign contributions for legislative candidates.

She failed to provide information to the Texas Ethics Commission required by law for certain out-of-state political contributions, although she was not fined in that instance.

In just a few years, she has had to correct her filings with the Texas Ethics Commission more than any other state legislator, including the ones who have been there for decades.

And now Mercedes-gate? No, no, no, I don't think that the voters will put up with that this year. Stop blaming everybody else and R E S I G N.

How stupid is she to think she could get away with this?

Very clever, title and phrasing.

Yes. I am always so full of wit.

What are "lapses of omissions?"

Keller's fine had nothing to do with campaign contributions.

Brown also has nothing to do with campaign cash, but both failed to disclose possible conflicts on their personal disclosure statement.

Hence the mention.

If this is not bribery, it is stupidity. Real, honest to god, stupidity.

Keller neglected to disclose 2.8 million on her financial disclosure form.

Brown forgot the two cars donated to her by a company that gained favors from her position on the transportation.

Ever heard of Pink Floyd?

She put an "SO" "State Official" license plate on that Mercedes, and now she wants - - What?
