It Wasn't That Funny

Let me just say to all of my 10s of readers, I like to pun around. I like to poke fun. And some say I am full of wit. But sometimes I get called on it and yesterday I got called on it. Literally.

I received a call from David Jones of KUHT's Red, White, and Blue concerning my pun about Harris County Judge Larry Standley and his discussion with students at CCISD about alcohol and drug use. David's comments made me realize that sometimes (sometimes) my partisan views and commentary can get in the way of what is good for the County. David compared him to one of my favorite criminal Judges which got my attention. It turns out Judge Standley is one top notch Judge.

Our Courts need a huge dose of balance, but not at the expense of those who are concerned about making a difference instead of making a headline. A family will never understand how important our Judges are until they are in front of one that is willing to take the time to try to save their kid from a life of crime while upholding the law. From what David told me, Standley is one of these judges.

We need more like him. My pun concerning Judge Standley was over the top and I apologize for it.

Note: I notice that some students who were at the meeting that got Standley in the news have commented on what he really said. It is a good read at the Bennett and Bennett blog.
