Texas ranks as one of the nation's least-connected states, with only three out of five Texans with Internet access at home, according to numbers released Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Texas ranks just aove Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi.
It's bad enough we rank near last in education, social services, cost of electricity, insurance, and the cost of college has skyrocketed, but to be 44th in the nation for internet access? Come on! Really? Worst of all is the reason we lag behind:
But in 1996, Texas lawmakers decided not to make Internet access universal, Straubhaar said. Instead, they chose to foster competition among phone companies when they passed an amendment to the Public Utility Regulation Act, according to UT Digital Divide Project data published in 1999.Yep, just like they did with electricity, insurance, and college tuition, they "fostered" competition for the private sector. And they competed with each other on how much they could charge consumers and get away with it.
Once again, Texas sucks. We need new leadership in Texas. Someone who doesn't suck like Rick Perry does.

Wow, that amendment sounds like it was really harmful.
I wonder why the Democrat-controlled state House passed it.
Quit trying to confuse John with facts!
