An Embarrassing Endorsement for Shami

Sometimes I have to wonder about the Mexican American groups in Texas. We are the fastest and largest minority in the State, yet we don't vote like we are, and then we make these real stupid endorsements:
Following a meeting on Saturday morning, the Mexican American Democrats (MAD) announced the group's endorsement of Texas Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Farouk Shami.

Steve Salazar, State Chair for the Mexican American Democrats of Texas, said that Farouk Shami's "willingness to sit down and listen, to talk to people about issues that affect us as a group-not only the economy and jobs, but also immigration and crime-led us to make this endorsement. He is inclusive of all people from all walks of life and can identify with those of us who were not born in the United States." Salazar added that the group felt Shami "represents to a lot of us what the American Dream is about: hard work, dedication to the community, and willingness to serve."
This is embarrassing. It is no wonder we don't vote with endorsements like this. Next up for MAD? Endorsement of Kinky Friedman along with the Dallas Morning News.

I totally agree. I know that the Hispanic community has a long way to to go to get the representation they deserve, but, putting their trust in Shami is not how you do it. They should have considered, first, if the guy even knows what the capital of Texas is.

MAD sure seems to fit. Or INCOMPETENT...

Actually, MAD led the effort in turning Dallas County blue. That is more than can be said of other Latino Dem groups.

Yea. I guess you take the good with the bad, and this is the bad.

Although I'm leaning towards Bill White I do see why they would endorse Shami on issues alone. He is the most liberal. It is very unfortunate however, that he has a non existent primary voting record and does not know who his state reps are.

I dont think Hispanic organizations are that liberal. As a race in general I think we are more moderate on issues such as gay marriage and abortion.

But then again that is a very general statement. It is my thoughts.

Sorry, let me clarify. Farouk Shami has taken a more liberal approach to issues that Hispanics care about, immigration being a big one.

I do disagree with you that hispanic organizations are not as liberal though. I think Hispanics who are very politically involved also tend to be a bit more progressive on social issues than those who aren't.

Don't these stupid Mexicans know they are supposed to follow the lead of Democrat hacktivists like you, John, rather than thinking for themselves and coming to their own decision?

I let the previous comment in just to show that racism still exists in the republican party. It is so refreshing.
