Radack's crew is putting the finishing touches on a $2.3 million soapbox derby park. The first races are scheduled for next month.Radack claims that people from all over the country will flock to Houston to race on this tax funded track. I thought the republican party didn't believe in frivolous spending, or having the government do what the private sector should be doing. What gives?
.....
It opens as county government departments look hard at cutting spending. The sheriff alone has pledged to trim as much as $47 million and the county health department could be looking at laying off dozens of employees
This pork barrel spending should put an end to the constant whining from the republican party about cutting taxes while cutting spending, because their top man is taxing and spending on, of all things, a soap box derby park.
I guess one man's pork is another man's park.

I am shell shocked at Commissioner Steve Radack's $2.3 million soapbox derby park boondoggle in Hockley of all places! What in the ever lovin' world was he thinking?! A great public servant spending our very hard earned tax $$$ wisely... not! He has to go!!! Public parks built with public $$$ should be for all citizens... not just for a very, very narrow group!
Radack is in a safe district. He can do what he wants and be a hypocrite as much as he wants. The voters will still vote him back in.
Because they are hypcrites also. If they weren't they would be teabagging the hell out of radack.
I am not defending Commissioner Steve Radack’s funding for a Soapbox Track, but consider the following:
When sports fields are built, a skateboard track, Dog Park, or a golf course they use public funds and put people to work who might otherwise be paid by the city or the county, but now have something to do.
Or
Not all tax payers have children, and those who have children, not all play organized sports, those who play organized sports, may not play the sports that the county or city provided venues. Some children play musical instruments while other children just devote themselves to their studies.
Should the people who do not have children or that their children are no longer living at home pay the same property taxes those tax payers who do have children pay at the same rate?
What should the county or city use it taxes on if not for parks?
I have seen 4 people standing outside a hole while one man is digging the hole. I guess there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
