Message from Jarvis on Running for Congress

Jarvis Johnson took the time to sit with local bloggers for an quick interview about running for CD18. I had to ask some hard questions such as why? Why would you challenge someone who has the seniority and experience of Sheila Jackson Lee?  His answers were good but I am sure they will be fact checked over and over again. I am glad I asked the hard questions because he has some good answers that Lee should answer also.

Goes without saying
Saying you are running because this is a Democracy goes without saying. Saying that the seat does not "belong" to anyone but the people of the district goes with out saying. Saying you are challenging because it is good to challenge, goes without saying. But once we got over the campaign stump speech the answers got a bit interesting.

Why is he running?
Jarvis claims the district has double digit unemployment and the highest drop out rate in the state. He said that while our energy companies are receiving billions in tax breaks the district continues to have no job creation. He said that Lee has only brought $7 Million to the district while others have brought so much more. (What is in the district that would benefit from these funds? Defense bases? Someone should look this up.) These are obviously good answers.

Mouth full of sour grapes
On one note which I think was still a bit sour, Jarvis claims Lee went against the wishes of his constituents by endorsing Hillary Clinton for President. Nothing like opening healed wounds with a bucket of rock salt. This shouldn't be a campaign issue.

Jarvis is young. Well spoken. Energetic. Has some experience. This is all good especially if the seat is open. I sure hope he is not running on the Hillary/Obama thing because that is old news. The healing is over. We are united as a party behind our President including Hillary. And me. There is absolutely no reason to ever bring this up again. It's not good for the district. It's not good for the party and it's not good for the country.

Good luck to Council Member Jarvis. This should be at the very least an interesting primary.

Give me a break on this one. All the years I lived in my district my congressman never voted the way I wanted him to. That's just the way it is.
He could have said I want to be in politics because I like power and I want that seat..

Jarvis thinks this is an opportunity for himself since Lee voted for Clinton.

Real stupid move. Divisive. It borders on reverse racism.
