Great Restaurants of Clear Lake

Living the Clear Lake area since 1980, I have found quite a few really great restaurants. Over the next year I hope to complete this list with a short review of each of my favorite places to eat. Enjoy!

Alamo Tamales. Best tamales in the area.
Mark's Donuts. Best breakfast tacos in Clear Lake. Don't let the name fool you.
Bay Area Meat Market. Great Bar B Que and a meat market too!
Tierra Luna. New Mexican restaurant. Owners husband is an Astronaut.
Don Pico's. Long time favorite Mexican food place.
Durangos. Another long time favorite with Yucatan style food.
Carlos Beer Garden. A garage beer joint with great hamburgers and cold beer.
Frenchies. A great hole in the wall Italian Restaurant.
Villa Capri Italian Restaurant. Owned by Frenchies. On the shores of Clear Lake.
Franca's Real Italian Restaurant. Once owned by her dad, Franco.
Colosseum Italian Restaurant. Great food at an incredible price!
Marios Flying Pizza. Great Italian food and pizza.

Colosseum -- definitely. Best food at the price.

Mario's -- Not so much.

And two you forgot:

Hoagie Ranch -- How could you leave it off?

T-Bone Tom's -- Got national exposure on the Food Network. Be sure to try the Armadillo Eggs!

re: Carlos Beer Garden, don't forget the long standing tradition of discounted "train beer!"

Also, and more importantly, while you still have the chance, don't forget to visit the historic and somewhat world famous Outpost Tavern. All good things must come to an end, and the long beloved tavern will be closing for good sometime in January.

Were it not for all the NASA memorabilia holding the walls together for all these years the joint would have collapsed long ago. But for now, they've restored their lunchtime hours.

The 1/2 lb burgers are still hand pressed moments before hitting the grill. Their taters, whether thin chips or in the form of traditional french fries are still freshly sliced moments before hitting the fryer. And, they're 100% FAT FREE!

Okay, so I lied about the fat free part. (I could probably write commercial copy for an advertising firm.)

But seriously folks. Do drop by while you still can, and enjoy a cold beer, a great burger, and some soon to be extinct uniquely flavorful chips.
