What are the odds?

On the last day of filing for City Council races, Council Member Anne Clutterbuck drew an opponent, Randy Locke. What are the odds that two individuals running for Houston City offices are both named Locke?

According to Randy Locke there is no family relationship with Gene Locke running for Mayor. Unlike Gene, Randy doesn't have any money. He doesn't have a website, and there is little if any information about him on the internets. Who is he and why would he challenge Anne who has been very successful as a city council member?

Randy has promised a website in the future. With just over a month before the election, he might want to hurry up. You have to wonder if there are games being played here. Really, what are the odds that two unrelated individuals named Locke are on the ballot together for Houston City elections?

Almost reminds me of another game.

There are two people named Rodriguez running as well. Also two people named Khan.

Your imagination is getting the better of you.

re you alleging a stalking horse? If so, on whose behalf?

Or are you just arguing that citizens don't have the right to challenge candidates for office who you think are doing a good job?

No, you're not. You didn't do your homework, you imagined a conspiracy where there was none, and now you're backing away from your irresponsible comments.

He is not a player.

Randy Locke doesn't look like a serious candidate.

But more to the point of this post: He also doesn't look like he's related to Gene Locke.

You totally blew the call on this one, John. It's like claiming that Reggie Bush and George Bush are related. After all, they have the same name.

Just admit your mistake and move on to the next one.

Not sure what you are complaining about anonymous. But go ahead and complain some more. It's a free country, at least until Obama takes your guns, your keyboard, and your wife.

(ok, you keep the wife, but your guns and keyboard will be ours!)

I'm complaining about the false premise of this post.

You made the irresponsible suggestion, without any evidence, that Gene Locke and Randy Locke are related.

That's simply false.

What's false?

Your suggestion that Gene Locke and Randy Locke are related is false.

"What are the odds?"

"What are the odds that two individuals running for Houston City offices are both named Locke?"

"You have to wonder if there are games being played here."

"Really, what are the odds that two unrelated individuals named Locke are on the ballot together for Houston City elections?"

You plainly implied they were related, and that something untoward was going on ("games being played.")

Those implications were false.

You don't read much do you?

I think anonymous actually reads too much into things.

"You don't read much do you?"

Voraciously. Enough to know that Randy Locke and Gene Locke are unrelated.

I learn facts before spouting conspiracies. You should do the same.

By the way, did you know that Bill White and Reggie White have the same last name? It must be some super-secret plot to get the mayor elected to the NFL Hall of Fame.
