Young mother of 3, with cancer, needs your help

Kelly Luther is 28, lives in a small Texas town called Alvin. She is a single mom with 3 young kids and she has cervical cancer. Prior to discovery of her cancer she purchased a health insurance policy for her family. Unfortunately she cannot afford the $6000 deductible that Clear Lake Hospital has demanded. (read her story in the Alvin Sun here)

So. Can you help? I have talked with Kelly and confirmed the bank account setup in Alvin. Once she is able to secure the money, she will be scheduled for treatment, and her 3 kids might keep their mom. Here is the info:

To Benefit Kelly Luther
Account Number: 205642
Texas Advantage Community Bank
1701 Fairway Plaza
Suite 18
Alvin, TX 77511
281-388-5200

It is an absolute shame that this is happening in America.

A family member of mine who is a veteran was also diagnosed w/cancer. He did not have insurance, always felt the VA would take care of him. He wanted to go to our big cancer hospital here in Houston for a second opinion. His wife was told yes you can come but it will cost you $14,000 for a concultation. No tests, just a consutl. Why? Why is health care so out of reach for so many?
Beside the millions or maybe billions paid out in bonuses to the insurance companies CEO's why is it we cannot have affordable health care.
All these jerks that will note no in D.C. for a healthcare program are the same ones that are fully insured as are their families. Imagine if their spouse or child would be in the same position as Kelly.

What's special about her? Nothing. I have the same bullshit $5000 deductible. Why she is only figuring that out now is ridiculous. Hell, get all you government employees whose insurance I pay for to send me money so I can have the 5 grand when I need it. She ought to be thrilled she has insurance. I know plenty of people who don't.

Its a joy to be surrounded by such compassionate Christians.

This story sounds like she has a cinergy health rip off policy. It sounds like a story in houston press.com.

Bravenewfilms.org was looking for stories:

With your help, we will change the health care system for the better. Brave New Films is gearing up with its own video, Sick For Profit, to expose abusive health insurance companies. If you or anyone you know has been neglected treatment or abandoned by a health insurance company, we need your story. Email csprinkle@bravenewfilms.org and let us know.

This sounds like another good Texas stories. If this is not abuse, what is it?

Sounds like Anonymous (What's special about her?) must have been anti-reform during the 90s. Now he regrets it. Anti-Clinton anti-reform people have no right to complain. They are just as responsible as the politicians. Sorry if I'm wrong about my guess.

What's the deductible for some of the plans the gov't employee's have? Anyone know? I know plans vary but let's get an idea of what these privileged few have to shell out.

Out of curiosity -- will this money be used to pay the current bill, or will it be used to pay off deadbeat mama's OLD bills that she stiffed CLRMC for in the past?

No one has asked for your greedy filthy money. Go buy a six pack or some smokes and STFU.

All it takes if 5000 people to donate a $1.00. It's more difficult to be polite and conduct yourself in a civilized manner. Haven't you ignorant folks gotten the message yet that the government is not going to help you? Only citizens can rely on each other. The government is against the people. Just help this woman and her family. She did nothing to bring this on and her children are our children too. If you don't want to help, then I'll be sure to leave you on the side of the road if I see you. And you can wait there for big government to recue you!

I went to the bank's website and didn't find an email address or easy way to make a donation. I guess I will just have to call. Shouldn't be a problem.

John Coby said...

No there is no easy way to donate. I did a payment through my bank sending the payment to the info on the blog.

We are setting up a paypal account to make it a bit easier for those with paypal accounts.

Can I just mail a check to the bank?

John Coby said...

Yes. I sent it via electronic banking.

No there is no easy way to donate.

Good grief, are you people complete mongoloids? Write a check, put it into an envelope with the bank's name on it. Put a stamp on it (should be easy with the drool level around here. Insert the envelope into a mailbox. Try not to get your hand stuck.

The total bill for these treatments has got to exceed that copay by at least a factor of 10. The medical center is being a P.O.S.

It's too bad the state isn't requiring Gardasil vaccines that would prevent a great deal of cervical cancer.

I gave some money. Seriously guys get a grip. Who has three young kids and $3000 lying around?

Compassionate Christians? Make no mistake, that jerk the posted "what's so special about her" is no Christian. He or she might pretend to be one, but people like that aren't fooling God, and they don't fool me. "Ye shall know them by their works". That sad person is just another hell-bound soul, spreading misery wherever possible. There really are compassionate Christians in America, but most of them are liberals. It's a travesty that in the richest country in the world, a serious illness can bankrupt a family.
