God smacks down Mac-Leeroy

Governor Perry's nominee for Chair of the State Bored of Education, Don Mac-Leeroy an ultra christian conservative, came to a crushing halt with a vote against his confirmation in the Texas Senate. Unfortunately Senate Republicans had an opportunity to save the nomination but were conducting a prayer circle outside the chambers, missing the vote entirely.

After the prayer Senator Dawson had little to say about the missed opportunity: "*&^damnit!"

Others continued to pray with the hope that God would reverse Einstein's theory of time and space so they could cast their vote in a timely manner. So far that is not working.

I think God has spoken.

John, your level of religious bigotry has been rising lately. I'm sure that will do wonders for local Democrats come the next election.

That the senate vote was down party lines is a good indication that the situation is over-politicized. This is reflected with the makeup of the board itself. It has been stuffed by the republican party with religious fundamentalists as a part of a political tactic to use fear and misconception to exploit and motivate their voting base, many of whom equate evolution with atheism, or regard its teaching in science class as "liberals kicking God out of our schools!"

When politicized, both religion and education suffer. The recent sessions of the board are an embarrassment to the state, and sadly, I don't see that changing as a result of the Senate vote.

This is because Perry will now have to nominate a new chairman. And since he's a slow learner, that choice is likely to be another young earth creationist.

Here's a couple of candidates:

David Bradley lacks a college degree, home schools his kids, and is apparently clueless about the scientific method. Said Bradley, "This critical thinking stuff is Gobbledygook. Students need to be able to jump to their own conclusions."

At least Terry Leo has a college degree and experience in public education, but alas, little understanding of the theory she opposes with such vigor; "There are no transitional species ever found."

On the bright side, the chairman's most offending amendments failed to pass, so it's possible that at least a handful of republicans on the board are competent. Maybe Gov. Goodhair will pick one of them.

My prior comment was a bit of a downer for a thread that's tagged as "humor" so here's something funny.

Republican religious right winger Pat Robertson's mouth is no stranger to his foot, but he actually turned out to be somewhat correct when he predicted that legalizing gay marriage would lead to people having sex with ducks.
